Welcome to Amacord's
      Fillmore Jazz Projects

Before it was destroyed by a coalition of real estate developers and corrupt politicians, the Fillmore was the third most active commercial district in San Francisco. It was also the most important jazz center west of Chicago in post war America.

We've begun the process of "rebuilding" the neighborhood through the memories and photographs of residents, business owners, musicians and their family members

    • A quick overview of the Fillmore's jazz era

    • Treasures from the collection of San Francisco jazz legend Johnnie Ingram

    • The Red Powell/Reggie Pettus Collection
Photographs rescued from the wall of one of the Fillmore's most popular barbershops by Reggie Pettus. Curated by Lewis Watts.

    • The Fillmore jazz scene in the 1970's
Photos and recollections provided by Faith Fjeld.

    • Fillmore Museum
The Fillmore has one of the most interesting histories of any neighborhood in 20th century America. Come by and see why. Jazz is just one of the many art forms that flourished here.
